For a school with a feel of home – Support for Skola Specialni in Ostrava
A cooperative project between the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation and Skola Specialni in Ostrava
Project Description
Skola Specialni offers training and education for children with various disabilities and mental impairments. 50 children attend the school to complete their primary school education. The children are taught in accordance with the primary school curriculum and with teaching programmes for practical primary schools and special schools. The care provided is individual and complex. Each student has their own training, education, health and rehabilitation plan, which is adapted to individual challenges such as autism.
The children need constant special care and, for this reason, several teachers teach small groups at the same time. Skola Specialni is in a bad state of disrepair. Most urgently, they needed a barrier free sanitary facility for the students. Skola Specialni wanted to include a supplement to the curriculum by organising a trip to the mountains in the Czech Republic, which will enable the children to do outdoor activities to help with their further development.
Project Goals
The Lyoness Child & Family Foundation helped to support the urgent restoration of the school. In particular, a barrier free sanitary facility for the disabled children was very important. Through the support from the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation a holiday was organised for the children to enable them to do various outdoor activities – away from familiar surroundings – to encourage their further development.
